My Big Kahuna Project: A Multiplication and Division website for 3rd graders (especially those who tend to "fall through the cracks."
For my Big Kahuna I would like a website that will help 3rd graders practice their multiplication and division since it is a goal to master facts 0-10 for 3rd graders in our school. Students tend to need more practice than the three units in our math program give them, and sending students to IXL, EDM, or Khan Academy learning sites don't give enough guidance. Hopefully this website will.
I'd like this website to engage students and help them to master their multiplication facts and apply them to different situations other than simple math facts, such as problem based activities and word problems.
I would like to have:
Multiplication/Division interactive tools for basic facts that allows for immediate feedback.
More complex multiplication and division using videos and lessons that engage, teach and reinforce the concepts of two-digit by one digit and two-digit by two digit, as well as long division.
I'd like students to complete a problem based activity such as measuring a room and finding the area and then changing the room layout using the multiplication and division skills they learn.
I like Craig's idea of flashcards. I would also like to embed or create a link to a site that has e-flash cards for multiplication facts.
I would use a quiz tool to get a formative and summative assessment of students' progress.
and more...TBA
